“López creates some serious butt-shaking grooves!” - Montreal Hour
Colombia-born Roberto López moved to Montreal two decades ago to study jazz. Longtime leader of his own ensembles, he created the Afro-Colombian Jazz Orchestra in 2011 as a unique project dedicated to reviving and modernizing the cumbia big-band era of the 1970s. The resulting CD, "Azul," was a unique hybrid of traditional wind ensembles from Colombia’s Caribbean coast and North American jazz bands; fresh, seductive, and a joy to listen to, it went on to win a Juno and be acclaimed as the year’s “Best World Music Album” by Le Devoir. In short, this is going to be a dance-happy highlight of TD JazzFest! Roberto López guitar, Jean-Sebastien Leblanc clarinet, Joel Miller tenor saxophone, David Carbonneau trumpet, David Grott trombone, Fraser Hollins upright bass, Massimo Sansalone drums and Kullak Viger-Rojas percussion
